1. ATTENDANCE AWARDS

Attendance awards will be given to the clubs having the largest attendance at the regular Council meetings during the year, as follows:

  1. To clubs with membership of 20 or less.

  2. To clubs with membership of 21 through 34.

  3. To clubs with membership of 35 or more.

AWARDS: First - $5.00; Second - $2.50 (In all categories)

2. SCRAPBOOK AWARD

Only books of the current year (May to June) or preceding year are eligible. Oversized and bulky books are discouraged. Books should reflect club activities and projects and will be judged on the following points:

Physical Aspects (30 points)

  1. Size: not larger than 22"x14"
    Note: Federated Clubs - Books no larger than 12"x14" are eligible for District judging.

  2. Name of Club, City and State

  3. Neat binding

  4. Margin of ample width

Completeness of content (50 points)

  1. Index

  2. General Meetings and Programs

  3. Council Participation

  4. Civic plantings

  5. Special projects

  6. Club Yearbook

  7. Garden tours

  8. Flower Show Participation

  9. Junior Club work (if applicable)

  10. Publicity

Educational Value (20 points)

  1. Club History or President's Report (current year only)

  2. Interest of subject matter

  3. Information rather than artistry

AWARDS: First - $30.00; Second - $20.00; Third - $10.00

  1. To clubs with membership of 20 or less

  2. To clubs with membership of 21 through 34

  3. To clubs with membership of 35 or more.

3. CLUB YEARBOOK AWARDS

  1. Printed

  2. Permanent Cover (removable inserts)

  3. Pages with color - can be printed or permanent cover

AWARDS: First $20.00 ; Second - $10.00 (In all categories); 
                   Third - $5.00 (In all categories)

Note:  When applying for this award, state in which category you are entering.  The same garden club yearbook based on the club year may be entered only one time.

The following points of National Standard Yearbook judging will be used regarding FORMAT:

Book Structure (3 points)

  1. Practicability, convenient size, durability, neatness

Arrangement (12 points)

  1. Cover (2 points) 
    Name of club, city, state, year

  2. Title page (4 points)
    Name of club, city, state, year; number of members, affiliated organizations (district, state, region, NGC, other)

  3. Subsequent pages (6 points)

  1. Name and address of National President, Regional Director, State President, District President (for Federated Clubs), Council President, Club Officers.

  2. Club By-laws.

  3. Membership roster with mailing address and phone numbers, and email address if available.

  4. Calendar of events (other than regular club meetings) Example: Date of Council and District meetings and activities.

Program Content (85 points)

  1. Club Meetings (50 points)
    At least seven meetings a year.

    When:   Date and time of meeting
    Where:  Place of meeting
    Who:     Name of speaker
    What:    Title of program (Programs to encompass a comprehensive study of horticulture, conservation, green design, flower arranging and flower show practices.)

  2. Club projects (35 points) 
    At least three (3) activities, other than regular monthly meetings, such as:

    1. Junior club work

    2. Litter prevention or control workshops

    3. Birds

    4. Garden Therapy

    5. Garden tours, etc.

4. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FLOWER SHOW JUDGING SCHOOL

Two (2) individual scholarships will be awarded to students attending Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs Flower Show Schools for prospective judges. Fifty ($50.00) dollars will be awarded per student per course. Total annual commitment $200.00 for Council.

Requirements for Award:

  1. Applicant must be a member of a Federated Garden Club and a permanent resident of Virginia Beach.

  2. Applicant must have a sincere interest in becoming a qualified judge with the desire to complete the five (5) required courses.

  3. Applicant must achieve passing grade to be reviewed by the Judge's Chairman before the next course is taken.

  4. Application to be submitted by applicant or garden club in binder.

5. CHARLOTTE TILBROOK MEMORIAL AWARD (1952-57)

To the club planting the most dogwood trees.

AWARD: First - $5.00
